On Tuesday, July 08, 2008, Campaign for Americas Future, launched a new campaign, Health Care for America Now! at a press conference in Washington, DC and 55 other cities and towns. The campaign will involve over 100 national and local organizations, including UFCW, SEIU and AFSCME.
Health care is a major issue in the United States, the cost of which is pushing many families into bankruptcy. Patients without funds are dying due to lack of access to health care, according to an article by USA Today. Health Care for America Now! will ensure that Congress and the future President keeps quality affordable health care for all as a top priority.
“While there may be gridlock in Washington, there is consensus in America. The American people want solutions—not sound bites. We need health care for America now,” said UFCW International President, Joseph Hansen.
Richard Kirsch, Healthcare for America Now!’s campaign manager spoke on some of the key policies needed for better health care for America. Including:
• A truly inclusive and accessible health care system in which no one is left out.
• A choice of a private insurance plan, including keeping the insurance you have if you like it, or a public insurance plan without a private insurer middleman that guarantees affordable coverage.
• Health coverage through the largest possible pools in order to achieve affordable, quality coverage for the entire population and to share risk fairly.
Health Care for America Now! will be in 45 states asking members of Congress and candidates “Which side are you on?”
The UFCW is apart of this effort to solve America’s healthcare crisis, and you can be apart of it too. Just sign up with UFCW to be a healthcare activist and sign up here to be a health care voter and let your voice be heard! Which side are you on?
