Americans are fortunate to live in a country where we have access to more than just positive news stories or convenient facts. From social networking, to Google, to Wikipedia, to blogs like this one - we’re able to absorb more statistics and details than at any other time in human history. Our government encourages a free market of information that exposes us to foreign ideas, unpleasant facts and competitive values.
Unfortunately, this mass of information has its downside. How do we separate the truths from the lies?
With that goal in mind, UFCW International President Joe Hansen is encouraging local unions, union members, and all Americans to participate in the Obama Truth Team.
The Truth Team is an online resource that keeps track of every single thing said on the Presidential campaign trail. From the most sweeping policy proposals to the most ordinary of promises, the Truth Team works as a written record aimed at keeping all the candidates, the President included, honest to the American people.
It’s important to make informed decisions, especially with so much at stake in this year's election. President Obama and the current GOP contenders find themselves separated by fundamental differences on almost every issue. President Obama has shown he’s interested in bolstering the middle class and creating better jobs, better prospects, and better wages for all workers. Meanwhile, the Republican Party rhetoric seems to suggest that the GOP stands for even more income disparity, even more hardship, and even less opportunity for workers.
By participating in the Obama truth team we can help keep this campaign focused on the facts that matter and weed out the fictitious claims that don’t. Because let’s be honest - the facts are on our side. Unemployment is decreasing. Health care coverage has been expanded. Opportunity is rising. This country is moving forward. We have to do everything we can to keep on that course - not derail the progress being made in favor of damaging, regressive policies.
Click here to join the Obama Truth Team or research it more. It’s fast, it's easy and it will go a long way towards keeping presidential candidates honest and accountable to American workers and their families.
